Description

Meet your guide at your hotel and head to the Imperial Palace and tke a morning stroll through the East Gardens to take in the seasonal flora. Here you can see some ruins of Edo Castle, the home of the Tokugawa Shogunate and the center of military power in Japan before the Meiji Restoration when the imperial family regained power.

Then move to Asakusa, a lively area with a rich culture and no shortage of things to do. Peruse market stalls of local snacks and souvenirs on Nakamise Street, and then visit the nearby Sensoji Temple with its iconic Kaminarimon gate. Alternatively, or if time permits, take a deep dive into Japanese culinary arts on the Kappabashi shopping street, visit retro theme park Hanayashiki, or enjoy a ride on a rickshaw.  Akaskusa is also famous for sumo, and for lunch you will enjoy chanko nabe, a hearty hotpot dish popularized for helping sumo wrestlers gain muscle.

After lunch, take a short train ride to Akihabara.  This shopping district is known as a center for both electronics shops, and manga and anime merchandise.  You will also visit Kanda Shrine, home to one of the three major shinto festivals in Japan. 

Then, visit Tsukiji Fish Market, formerly the site of the largest wholesale fish market in the world.  Though the inner market and its functions were moved to Toyosu in the last few years, the outer retail market with various shops and restaurants remains in operation.  

Finish off the day in Ginza, a lively high-end shopping and entertainment area with planty of shops, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants.  You may choose to end your tour here to continue shopping or even catch some kabuki theater, or accompany your guide back to your hotel.
